Energy Community of Karditsa Αρχική 6th km. Karditsa – Kedros, PC 43100 Agiopigi Karditsas Energy Community of Karditsa (ESEK) is a profit citizen energy cooperative. It was established in 2010. The main purpose was to foster renewable energy in the region. In 2019, according to the provisions of the law 4513/2018 and following the unanimous decision of the General Assembly, the Energy Cooperative was converted into an Energy Community. Nowadays more than 400 are the members of the community (an estimated 8% rate is comprised by municipalities, SMEs, associations etc.) ESEK operates in Thessaly, an area with strong agricultural production. The continuous expansion of the local fossil fuel network threatens the uptake of RE heating solutions such as biomass boilers. At the same time, the region has a great biomass supply chain potential through agricultural, forestry and wood processing industries that can easily support the uptake of bioenergy technologies. The main activity of the Energy Community is related to the management of a biomass plant for the production of solid biofuels to generate energy for heating (or cooling) purposes. The first phase of the investment project has accomplished, an Energy Community with a solid biofuel plant which can set up the value chain for the local community.

It is a non-profit-making civil company, the majority of which is owned by the Municipality of Karditsa. It is managed by a 9-member Board of Directors. It is based in the Municipality of Karditsa, but operates in the wider area of the Regional Unit of Karditsa. It participates in regional, national and transnational networks promoting equal opportunities in all areas of women’s activities. The Women’s Centre of Karditsa has as its main objective the support of all women, without any discrimination!

It organises the following two leading cultural events on an annual basis: a) the Panhellenic Amateur Theatre Festival which takes place in the third ten days of March. b) the International Cultural Festival Karaiskakeia, which takes place in the last ten days of June.
